MUSLIMS FORCE NON-MUSLIMS TO PAY JIZYA TAX FOR 'PROTECTION'

March 7, 2010 - On Sunday, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi hit out at the Prime Minister for failing to address the plight of the community in the neighbouring country. "I want to ask the PM what he has done. Aren't you a Sikh? Why don't you do something? It is the need of the hour. It is your chance to pay your dues. Say something, do something. Take up the issue with Pakistan,” he said.  BJP's Prime Minister-in-waiting, L K Advani, also attacked the PM. “If Sikhs are not being treated in Pakistan well, then the Government should take up this issue. It is not doing anything," he said.  The comments come in the backdrop of incidents of Sikhs being attacked in Pakistan and asked to pay "protection money".  Reports said that Sikhs are being asked to pay Jaziya (protection tax imposed on non-Muslims under Shariah law) and houses of 11 Sikh families were destroyed after they failed to pay Rs 5 cr each when the deadline expired on April 29.  Click below for story.

MUSLIM CALLS FOR SHARIA LAW IN AUSTRALIA

March 7, 2010 - Elements of Islamic law - the sharia - should be legally recognised in Australia so that Muslims can live according their faith, a prominent Muslim leader says.  Addressing an open day at Lakemba Mosque on Saturday, the president of the Australian Islamic Mission, Zachariah Matthews, said parts of sharia could be recognised as a secondary legal system so that Muslims were not forced to act contrary to their beliefs. ''Sharia law could function as a parallel system in the same way that some traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander law was recognised in the Northern Territory,'' Dr Matthews told the Herald after the session.  ''I don't think we are so unsophisticated that we cannot consider a multilayered legal system as long as it doesn't conflict with the existing civil system.''  The comments shocked some attending the open day. They felt Dr Matthews was advocating the introduction of the penal system under which women have been stoned to death for adultery, and corporal punishment is meted out for some offences.  Click below for story.

CHRISTIAN COUPLE SENTENCED TO 25 YRS FOR TOUCHING QUR'AN

March 4, 2010 - A court in Kasur district, Punjab, convicted a Christian couple, Munir Masih and Ruqqiya Bibi, to 25 years in prison. According to the Centre for Legal Aid Assistance and Settlement (CLAAS), judge Ajmal Hussein convicted the couple for touching the Qur‘an without washing their hands.  Munir Masih and Ruqqiya Bibi were released on bail last January, but were re-arrested after the judge ruled against them. The husband was locked up in Kasur’s district prison; the wife was sent to the women’s prison in Multan. Both have started serving 25 years behind bars.  Click below for story.

MUSLIM WOMEN BARRED FROM U.K. FLIGHT, REFUSE FULL BODY SCAN

March 4, 2010 - Two Muslim women have become the first passengers to refuse to subject themselves to controversial 'naked' full body airport scans, it emerged today.  The pair - who security officials insist were selected at random - opted to miss their flight to Pakistan and forfeit tickets worth £400 each rather than be screened.  One of the women refused to go through the full-body scanner at Manchester Airport on religious grounds while her companion also declined for 'medical reasons'.  The women were travelling together to Islamabad when they were selected to pass through the controversial security screen after checking-in at Terminal Two at the airport.  An estimated 15,000 people have already passed through the scanners, with the pair the first passengers to refuse a scan.  Click below for story.

March 4, 2010 - A man who was freed from Guantanamo more than two years ago after he claimed he only wanted to go home and help his family is now a senior commander running Taliban resistance to the U.S.-led offensive in southern Afghanistan, two senior Afghan intelligence officials say.  Abdul Qayyum is also seen as a leading candidate to be the next No. 2 in the Afghan Taliban hierarchy, said the officials, interviewed last week by The Associated Press.  The story of Abdul Qayyum could add to the complications President Barack Obama is facing in fulfilling his pledge to close the prison at Guantanamo by sending some current prisoners back to their home countries or to other willing nations, while putting others on trial.  U.S. intelligence asserts that 20 percent of suspects released from the Guantanamo Bay prison have returned to the fight and that the number has been steadily increasing. Qayyum's key aide in plotting attacks on Afghan and international forces is another former Guantanamo prisoner, said the Afghan intelligence officials as well as a former Helmand governor, Sher Mohammed Akundzada. Abdul Rauf, who told his U.S. interrogators that he had only loose connections to the Taliban, spent time in an Afghan jail before being freed last year.  He rejoined the Taliban, they said. 3 MUSLIMS SHOOT GAY SAN FRANCISCO MAN IN FACE

March 4, 2010 - Three cousins from Hayward have been charged in San Francisco with a hate crime and assault for allegedly firing a BB rifle at the face of a man they believed was gay, an attack the men videotaped, authorities said Wednesday.  Mohammad Habibzada, Shafiq Hashemi and Sayed Bassam, all 24, are scheduled to be arraigned today in San Francisco Superior Court. They are free on $50,000 bond apiece.  The victim of Friday's attack was walking on the 3200 block of 16th Street near Guerrero Street about 10 p.m. when a car pulled up and someone inside opened fire with a BB rifle, police said.  The man was hit in the face but refused medical treatment, said Lt. Lyn Tomioka, spokeswoman for the Police Department. He reported the shooting to police, who pulled over a car that matched the assailants' vehicle a short distance away and arrested the three Hayward men.  Investigators believe the assailants chose the victim because he appeared to be gay. 4 GERMAN MUSLIMS SENTENCED IN "ANOTHER 9/11" PLOT

March 4, 2010 - Fritz Gelowicz, the ring leader, got 12 years, his German sidekick Daniel Schneider - both converts to Islam - 11 years while two accomplices were sentenced to five years each for their roles in a plot to detonate explosives 100 times more powerful than those used in the London Underground bombings of July 2005.  The four men, known as the "Sauerland Cell" after the tourist region where they stockpiled massive amounts of chemicals for the bombs, were jailed at the end of a nine-month trial. In a rare move, prosecutors allowed them to plea-bargain their guilt in return for what the defendants hoped would be far shorter sentences.  In closing speeches top prosecutor Volker Brinkmann said the gang "had planned a mass murder unrivalled in Germany. They acted out of blind hatred for American soldiers," he said.  "It is terrible to think they enjoyed the concept of terror attacks that would have killed at least 150 soldiers as well as women and children.  "They appointed themselves masters over life and death."  Gelowicz, Schneider and Adem Yilmaz, who is a Turkish national, were captured in the Sauerland region in 2007 after stockpiling vast quantities of hydrogen peroxide, suitable for making car bombs and other explosives.  Click below for story.

4 MUSLIM KILLERS ACQUITTED IN MURDER OF 60-YR-OLD CHRISTIAN

March 4, 2010 - An Egyptian court in the southern city of Assuit acquitted this week four Muslims accused of killing 61-year-old Farouk Attallah on October 19, 2009. In broad daylight and in full view of witnesses, the killers fired 31 bullets to his head before beheading him, in the busy village market place of Attaleen, near Dairout, 313 kilometers south of Cairo. The dead body was then dragged in the street, accompanied by shouts of victory. Free Copts website published a video of the disfigured body.  The judge presiding over the court on February 22, said that he was not satisfied that the testimony of the witnesses established that the imprisoned men were the killers. After the acquittal of Mohamad, Ashraf, Osama and Ahmad Hassouna, there was jubilation in the court room, with shouts of 'Allah is Great' and congratulations from all Muslims, including members of the state security forces who were present.  Christians were enraged over the acquittal, since similar cases would result in life imprisonment or execution for a Copt if the victim was a Muslim.  The murder was prompted because the Christian's son was dating a Muslim girl, and photos of the two together were circulating on cell phones.  Click below for story.

1ST MUSLIM COLLEGE IN US FOUNDED BY RADICAL ISLAM SUPPORTERS

March 2, 2010 - Zaytuna College in Berkeley, California was founded by Hamza Yusuf, Zaid Shakir and Hatem Bazian. The freshman class will consist of 25 students. According to a report in Islam On Line,  "Zaytuna College is in the rigorous process of seeking accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, a process that will take a number of years and one that Imam Shakir hopes will be completed by the time the freshman class graduates...they have been able to achieve the goal of raising nearly $4 million needed for its temporary location at Berkeley. Now they face the challenge of raising upwards of $65 million for an endowment fund that will ensure a consistent monetary support and alleviate the need for constant fundraising."   All three founders have made extremist statements supportive of radical Islam.  As noted above, Zaytuna College is seeking accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges [WASC]. If this is allowed to take place, WASC could well be sanctioning the existence of America's first college level jihadi madrassa.  Click below for story.

MUSLIM MOB ATTACKS CHRISTIANS

March 2, 2010 - 150 Muslims went on a rampage against Christians in Pahar Ganj, a suburb of Karachi, Pakistan, damaging two churches, burning shops owned by Christians, beating Christians, and burning their vehicles, according to the Yahoo.com Religion News Blog.  This unprovoked brutality began because a 14 year old Christian boy touched some plums on a fruit vendor’s cart. The Muslim vendor cut the boy's hand open with a fruit knife, and some Christians had to rescue the boy from the knife wielding vendor, striking him in the process. It is common practice in Central Asia and in India, for customers to handle and inspect fruit, prior to purchasing it.  Yelling ‘Bhangi’ (sewer man) at the boy (a derogatory term which Muslims commonly use against Christians), the vendor called upon fellow Muslims, reportedly saying "My Muslim brethren, pay heed to me – that Christian Bhangi has defiled my fruit and made blasphemous remarks about the Quran.”  According to Compass Direct News, his call was answered by some 150 armed Muslims mostly from the Pathan clan. The angry mob swept into the Christian enclave of approximately 1,000 homes and began to loot then burn Christian businesses within the area.  Click below for story.

ISLAMISTS KILL AND TAX RELIGIOUS MINORITIES

March 2, 2010 - Christian groups in Pakistan and India have joined political and other religious leaders in deploring the recent beheading of two young Sikh men by a Taliban group in Pakistan, and have demanded security for religious minorities in the Muslim-majority nation. "We condemn this diabolic act," said Victor Azariah, general secretary of the National Council of Churches of Pakistan, in a telephone interview with Ecumenical News International on March 1. "This is yet another instance of growing insecurity to the [religious] minorities here."  The National Commission for Justice and Peace of the Roman Catholic Church in Pakistan said, "alarm bells are ringing" following the beheading of Jaspal Singh and Mahal Singh, whose bodies were found in Bara town in the troubled North West Frontier Province bordering Afghanistan on Feb. 21. A pro-Taliban group kidnapped the two Sikh youths along with two other young men in January in the Khyber Agency region, and demanded a ransom of 30 million Pakistani rupees (US$350,200) for the release of their captives. On March 1, Pakistan security forces rescued the other abducted Sikhs, Gurvinder Singh and Gurjit Singh, during a raid in which several of the kidnappers were killed. The four Sikhs, who wore traditional turbans, had moved into the city of Peshawar to escape extremists in an area where Islamic groups had in 2009 imposed a "religious tax" on minorities, and threatened those who refused to pay.
